Evalaution - Question 1

This is question 1 of my evaluation. The question was 'in what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?'. I answered this question by using a voiceover on my completed opening sequence to explain how my final product used conventions of real media products.

Evaluation - Question 4

This is question 4 of my media evaluation. I answered this as a discussion/ chat show with somebody else from my group. The question i answered was 'who would be the audience for your media product?'. I stated that teenagers and young adults would be most appealed  to this film as it is scary and thrill seeking.

Evaluation - Question 5

This is question 5 of my media evaluation. This question was ' How did you attract your audience?'. I answered this question by making my own video on "movie plus".

This is a poster i made to advertise to our targeted audience.

Problems with our filming

When we began to edit our opening sequence once we got all of the shots, we came across some problems with the shots.

One of the problems was the high angle shot of the district nurse looking up the stairs through the mirror.

After beginning to edit our sequence, we realised that somebodys feet were seen in the mirror. This means our continuity was not very good , as we tried to show the audience that the house was empty and noone else was in it apart from the district nurse. We removed this clip and replaced it with a shot of just her feet going up the stairs :

Another problem we came across was the opening clip of the district nurse driving to the house in her car:

This clip made our sequence lack continuty as you can see a man driving instead of the district nurse actor. This is because the actor is not old enough to drive so we had to ask someone else. We planned to try and edit him out of the sequence but we were unable to disguise him.
We are now planning to get more clips of inside the car ( changing gear) so that we can replace that when the clip shows his face.

Evaluation ideas - Question 7

The final question i need to answer in order to complete my evaluation is 'Looking back at your perliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?'

This question is asking me to explain what i think has improved. I can explain that my planning, editing, shotlist, camera work and story boarding has all progressed.

I learnt how to overcome problems with filming and editing. Such as lack of continuity, we learnt how to find out which parts we need to film or an alternative with editing to improve the continuity.

I have developed my camera skills, because in my perliminary task it was simple shots however in my main task our shots have developed and we have also included titles and sound tracks.

Evaluation ideas - Question 6

The sixth question i have to answer is 'What have you learnt about technologies from the process of conducting this product?'

This questions means i have to discuss what technology i used in order to complete my opening sequence. I will dicuss the technology i used for pre-production, production and post production.

I could answer this question in a powerpoint. I will explain how i used a mobile phone to arrange our filming and explain why it was useful. I will also show that i used a camera to film my opening sequence.

Evaluation ideas - Question 5

The fifth question for my evaluation is 'How did you attract/address your audience?'

To answer this question i have to dicuss how i made it appeal to the age group we are aiming for.
I will dicuss how i attracted my audience from inside the film, and also how i promote it to them.

Evaluation ideas - Question 4

The fourth question i need to answer in order to evaluate my perliminary task is 'Who would be the audience for your media product?'

This question is asking me who we aim to watch our opening sequence. I could answer this question in the style of a news broadcast.

We are aiming for teenagers who like scary movies and working adults,  this is so they can relate to the actor of the district nurse within the sequence. We believe it should be a 15 and over film.

Evaluation ideas - Question 3

The third question i need to answer for my evaluation is 'What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?'.

I could answer this question my recording myself via webcam or camera.

I will explain how it would not be a company such as disney because our opening sequence is scary and not animated etc.

I understand that the three stages are how a film is financed, the production of the film and then the distribution. For example, the film frozen spent alot of money making the film however they got their money back through ticket sales and merchandise.

I researched that Disney spent £150 million to produce the film.

I also researched the film 'The conjuring'. This is because it is a horror film which is the same genre as mine. I found out that it was finianced by warner bros with a budget of £20 million. They would have gained their money back through ticket sales in the cinema.

Evaluation ideas - Question 2

To evluate our perliminary task, we need to answer the question 'how does your media product represent particular social groups'. To answer this question i believe i am going to do my own slide show but make it into a video.

On youtube, AS media evaluation clips influced me by giving me different ideas. Although the clip above does not have the same question as mine, it influced me by the way they answered the question. I think it is more effective than just a powerpoint itself or me speaking.

I will explain how i represented my actor and why we used her. I will discuss how i reprented my actor as an inncoent district nurse just doing her job. We used her to show the audience it is just an everday opening sequence but with a slight twist.

Evalutation ideas - Question 1

To evaluate our perliminary task, we have 6 questions to answer in different ways.

The first question is 'In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?'. To answer this question i may answer in the form of a directors interview with our opening sequence playing in the background. This is because i believe it will be the most effective way of talking about the editing, camera, costume and location in my opening sequence.

Below is an example of an interview to do with the film "wolf of wall street". I aim to have an interview like this, with the title of my film on display or opening sequence playing in the background.

I aim to discuss about the editing in our opening sequence. Explaining how in the scene of action when the district nurse goes down to the cellar, the editing increases. We used this to add drama and make the scene tense. I understand that making editing faster in a scene of action it makes the audience more tense and it is more affective as we used this in our own clip.

I will also explain about the costume our actor wore. I will state that she wore a district nurse outfit to portray the actor as a district nurse.

Sound and Titles

On the 31st January our group began to dicuss what sort of sounds we would like in our opening sequence. We initially discussed soundbible for sound effects. An example of a sound effect we would like is a creepy moaning noise, which would be the reason why the district nurse went down into the cella. However, we found it difficult to find a sound effect we all prefered of soundbible so we decided to do our own sound for that part of the opening sequence.
Below is the website we used to find sound effects.

As well as looking for sound effects, we also tried to find a music backing track to set the scene of our opening sequence. We think the backing track is very important as it helps tell the audience the mood of our opening sequence and the type of music we aim for is to give the impression our opening sequence is tense and something is not right about the house the district nurse entered.

There was a variety of music websites we found, however it was difficult to find copywrite free music. However, we found soundcloud and free music archieve.

Above is the 'free  music archive' website. We found it very useful as it allowed us to choose music from different types of music including instrumental, blues, spoken etc. We chose instrumental music, and we decided to choose an extract which suits the tone of our opening sequence the most. We like it slow because we believe it builds up tension and quiet  because it is more eerie.

We also began to discuss titles within the opening sequence. This enabled us to discuss the different roles we all took to produce the opening sequence. For example, we came to a conclusion that Leah was in charge of the camera, i was director, Danielle was costume and amber was editing.

Shot list

Below is a shot list we have made for each scene in our opening sequence. We made this shot list on our production meeting on the 13/01.15.  Each scene clearly states the different shots we will be using. This will help us become organised on the day of filming and we are clear about what shots we have used. We will follow this shot list so we do not miss out any vital shots. However, we can also add in new shots if we think of new ones on the day.
