This is my media blog. I have posted many blogs which shows the research and my understanding of camera work and editing skills to learn upon and include in my final piece.

Evaluation ideas - Question 2

To evluate our perliminary task, we need to answer the question 'how does your media product represent particular social groups'. To answer this question i believe i am going to do my own slide show but make it into a video.

On youtube, AS media evaluation clips influced me by giving me different ideas. Although the clip above does not have the same question as mine, it influced me by the way they answered the question. I think it is more effective than just a powerpoint itself or me speaking.

I will explain how i represented my actor and why we used her. I will discuss how i reprented my actor as an inncoent district nurse just doing her job. We used her to show the audience it is just an everday opening sequence but with a slight twist.

Evalutation ideas - Question 1

To evaluate our perliminary task, we have 6 questions to answer in different ways.

The first question is 'In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?'. To answer this question i may answer in the form of a directors interview with our opening sequence playing in the background. This is because i believe it will be the most effective way of talking about the editing, camera, costume and location in my opening sequence.

Below is an example of an interview to do with the film "wolf of wall street". I aim to have an interview like this, with the title of my film on display or opening sequence playing in the background.

I aim to discuss about the editing in our opening sequence. Explaining how in the scene of action when the district nurse goes down to the cellar, the editing increases. We used this to add drama and make the scene tense. I understand that making editing faster in a scene of action it makes the audience more tense and it is more affective as we used this in our own clip.

I will also explain about the costume our actor wore. I will state that she wore a district nurse outfit to portray the actor as a district nurse.

Sound and Titles

On the 31st January our group began to dicuss what sort of sounds we would like in our opening sequence. We initially discussed soundbible for sound effects. An example of a sound effect we would like is a creepy moaning noise, which would be the reason why the district nurse went down into the cella. However, we found it difficult to find a sound effect we all prefered of soundbible so we decided to do our own sound for that part of the opening sequence.
Below is the website we used to find sound effects.

As well as looking for sound effects, we also tried to find a music backing track to set the scene of our opening sequence. We think the backing track is very important as it helps tell the audience the mood of our opening sequence and the type of music we aim for is to give the impression our opening sequence is tense and something is not right about the house the district nurse entered.

There was a variety of music websites we found, however it was difficult to find copywrite free music. However, we found soundcloud and free music archieve.

Above is the 'free  music archive' website. We found it very useful as it allowed us to choose music from different types of music including instrumental, blues, spoken etc. We chose instrumental music, and we decided to choose an extract which suits the tone of our opening sequence the most. We like it slow because we believe it builds up tension and quiet  because it is more eerie.

We also began to discuss titles within the opening sequence. This enabled us to discuss the different roles we all took to produce the opening sequence. For example, we came to a conclusion that Leah was in charge of the camera, i was director, Danielle was costume and amber was editing.

Shot list

Below is a shot list we have made for each scene in our opening sequence. We made this shot list on our production meeting on the 13/01.15.  Each scene clearly states the different shots we will be using. This will help us become organised on the day of filming and we are clear about what shots we have used. We will follow this shot list so we do not miss out any vital shots. However, we can also add in new shots if we think of new ones on the day.

Our script

We completed a new script to help us organise exactly how each 3 of our scenes will plan out. This script was completed on our third meeting. It involves the actions the actor makes and the dialogue that will be used.

Scene 1

(Car pulls up)

*Dani gets out of car, checks address
*Knocks on door - no answer - waits
*knocks again

Dani: Mrs Smith? Are you in? It’s Margaret, the district nurse.

*Looks through letter box

Dani: Mrs Smith? Can you hear me?

*Looks through letterbox
*Tries handle and door opens

Scene 2

*hesitantly enters

Dani: It’s Margaret, Polly, I’m coming in.

*Tries light switch – doesn’t work

Dani: Polly where are you?

*Finds candle on table and lights it – begins to walk up the stairs and suddenly there’s a noise from the cellar.

Scene 3

*Slowly steps back down stairs

Dani: Polly is that you? (Worried)

*opens the door to cellar and begins walking down the steps

(Doors shuts quickly behind her – sound of breathing and the candle is blown out)

New idea

After our third meeting, we decided to change our idea due. This is because we felt as though the idea of the girls entering the house was too original and there was no reason why the girls needed to enter the house.

Instead, on the 18/12/14 we all agreed to change the location to kirtlington. The idea was that a district nurse was visiting an old woman at her house, but there was no response and the door opened when the nurse touched it.

Here is the new location we decided on:

This is a shot of the door the nurse will knock on.
This is the road where we plan the nurse to park. This is situated outside of the house we will be using.

On this meeting we also completed a new preproduction schedule. This is our new preproduction we completed:

This pre production sheet enables us to be oranised and clear on our idea. It helps us to undrstand and clearly state our description of each scene, location, and when and where we will be filimg. It also clearly states the props we need and costume so we are prepared on the day of filming.

In the meeting we also discussed in our group who should be reliable on doing different things in order to make our opening sequenxe and filming as successful as possible. We came to a conclusion that i am in charge of the equipment, leah and dani are invlced in finding a suitable constume for a nurse and Amber is in charge of finding the correct props.
